Shana Wolfe - About

IMG_2247.jpg

Creating intimate and iconic psychological portraits of the world around her, Shana’s work subverts the power dynamics and iconography of an imperialist, capitalist, patriarchal society.

Drawing inspiration from feminist authors including Audre Lorde, Roxane Gay, bell hooks, and Maggie Nelson, the portraits Shana creates represent the complexities of daily life managing safety, fear, and harassment while still holding power in the world, both in and outside the home; both in and outside the psyche.

Without the use of narrative tools, each portrait tells a layered and personal private history for the viewer to connect with.

Shana lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.  After studying Painting at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD, she earned her B.S. in Art History and Museum Professions at SUNY Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She works full time at the Brooklyn Arts Council which provides resources and support for artists throughout the borough.

Her work can be seen at galleries throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan. Commissions and purchasing inquiries can be made through the Contact form.
